Paper aims to set-up a conservation strategy at two levels: urban level to define plan and design of interve ntion a t block, street and neighborhood dimensions, and so doing pursue the ambitious goal of a green city; building level to ensure the hard ecological characterization of restoration, rehabilitation, maintenance and refurbishment, and so doing pursue hard energy saving objectives. Case Study concerns a huge survey of over 100 urban blocks and over 400 hundred buildings (almost an urban neighborho od area) and a focus on a pilot building with two alternative conservation designs: usual versus sustainable with materials ensuring high e nergy efficiency. Research results show how sustainable conservation gets better and positive results both on energy side and on monetary cost
