This paper describes the results of an experimental investigation on the behaviour of a lightly grouted loose mediumsand under both monotonic and cyclic loading. The experimental programme in the present study was carried out onboth untreated and treated sand specimens stabilized with a silica-based grout, and comprises isotropic triaxial compressiontests equipped with bender elements, drained triaxial monotonic shearing tests, and undrained cyclic tests in a simple shear(SS) apparatus. The results highlight that the weak cementation level induced by chemical treatment was sufficient to moderatelyincrease small-strain stiffness and stress–dilatancy of the grouted sand during drained monotonic shear. A small cohesionintercept was observed in the analyzed failure envelope, while cyclic liquefaction resistance exhibited a much moresignificant increase, with a different pattern of behaviour between low and high stress levels. Finally, undrained cyclic SStest results evidenced that silicate grout employed in this research improves undrained cyclic shear strength in a manner similarto densification of the same material up to a density index of approximately 75%.

Cet article décrit les résultats d’une étude expérimentale sur le comportement d’un sable moyen lâche légèrementcimenté, soumis à des charges monotoniques et cycliques. Le programme expérimental de cette étude a été réalisé sur deséchantillons de sable stabilisés avec un coulis à base de silice, non traités et traités, et comprenait des essais de compressiontriaxiaux équipés avec des éléments fléchisseurs, des essais de cisaillement monotoniques triaxiaux drainés, ainsi que des essaiscycliques non drainés dans un appareil de cisaillement simple (CS). Les résultats démontrent que le faible niveau de cimentationcausé par le traitement chimique était suffisant pour augmenter de façon modérée la rigidité à faible déformationet la dilatance en contrainte du sable cimenté durant le cisaillement monotonique drainé. L’enveloppe de rupture analyséecomporte un faible ordonné à l’origine de cohésion, tandis que la résistance à la liquéfaction cyclique démontre une augmentationsignificativement plus grande, avec un comportement de type différent entre les niveaux de contraintes basses etélevées. Finalement, les résultats des essais en CS non drainés soulignent que le coulis de silicate utilisé dans cette étudeaméliore la résistance au cisaillement cyclique non drainée de manière similaire à la densification d’un même matériaujusqu’à un indice de densité d’approximativement 75 %.
