Abstract

The buildings of the historic cities experienced different transformation processes influenced by places, workers, heritage, and project design knowledge. This is not the case with modern buildings. It is necessary to pursue the identification of the urban patrimony and its upgrade through tailor-made action strategies ranging from the conservation to the renewal. In many cases these actions turn into systematic processes, that can accentuate the globalization effect, of definition and critical observation of the new urban landscapes made up of contemporary ruins such as the 700 unfinished works scattered all over our Country, 36.6 % of the buildings either abandoned or lacking maintenance, and 300,000 buildings in the illegal construction neighbourhoods linked to organized crime cement business. Each of our cities more or less shows these new landscapes.
