Abstract

“Regenerative cities” are those which, more than others, avoiding any possible hierarchical urban dimension, trust in the ability of transformations as effects of urban acupuncture and their power to emanate other values and vital energy. “Vulnerable Urbanism”, as defined by Ellin (2003), no longer considers the user to be a product of transformations, but a collaborator in sustainable planning based on “a context that regenerates and is reborn”. In the circular urban metabolism (flows of materials, energy, water, vegetation, and land as resources and ecosystem services) and in recycling activities (repair and reclaim), this trajectory finds its most lively productive dimension on the architecture and on the territories; it becomes the feasible direction in planning the innovation and sustainability of transformations and in open and self-informed processes of “transitioning communities”.
