Abstract

The discovery of the greek origins of Calabria is critical to understandthe cultural and social evolution of this Italian region. In some historicalperiods, the cultural richness of Calabria became landmark in the whole Europefor the production of precious codex, and gave birth to great philosophers andtheologians. Further, the Greek culture, which was widespread in the area, hasinfluenced the history of many regions across Europe. This project develops from a thorough analysis of an historical period that isnot yet fully known and from the best practices of some European countries inthe promotion of slow travel.Slow Travel and slow tourism have all the potential to use the culturalresources already existing in the territory through a sustainable repurposing ofcurrently abandoned infrastructures. The creation of slow routes as greenways, velorails, etc., may result in thecreation of a “Cultural Route” on the trail of Greek monasticism in Calabria.
