Abstract

The old unity which represented the city is now divided into various entities and the interpretation and the planning of the contemporary urban reality is so complex to be necessary a different ‘conceptual container’, a kind of ‘vicarial entity’ of what we have named city until now. Can this ‘vicarial entity’ of the city be recognized as the ‘urban landscape’? Can the ‘metaphor of landscape’, with its bi-gathered value (thing and image; meaning and significant), substitute the substance of the ‘body of the city’ and be the basis of the research of a new ‘praxis’ for the contemporary urban project?
