The aim of the paper is to determine the extreme wave heights along the Italian coastline where the RON (Rete Ondametrica Nazionale) activated wave buoys since 1989. The wave data have been analysed by means of the normal, log-normal, Weibull and Gumbel probability distribution functions with the scope to determine the design wave height for a given return period. In particular, the results for Monopoli (Adriatic Sea), Ponza (Tyrrhenian Sea), Crotone (Ionian Sea) and Mazara del Vallo (Sicily Strait) are shown and further discussed considering the confidence intervals. The confidence intervals have been determined for a given probability level; a confidence interval with probability ranging between 0.95 and 0.99 is considered.

Abstract
The confidence intervals have been determined for a given probability level; a confidence interval with probability ranging between 0.95 and 0.99 is considered.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
