CITY AS LEAF NERVATION

The subject of this paper falls within the topics “Innovation of sustainable housing in the Mediterranean culture” and “Sustainable urban planning for the Mediterranean city” and presents the considerations and outcomes of a research line, tackled by the Dep. AACM, which has started from the interest in projects and processes of governance aimed at enhancing the urban quality, and has then expanded on the planning standards for a sustainable city intended as a friendly, healthy and ethically beautiful city.This contribution intends to dwell on some aspects on the premise that sustainability requires a systemic approach as shown by the main measures adopted in the choice of settlement sites, which have produced an optimal adherence of the urban body to the environmental characteristics, in relation to the settlement strategies in the Mediterranean regions, with the intention to recollect those planning “masteries” which created amazing cities destined to last thousands of years.Another aspect is related to the most advanced and creative experimentations in the field of the urban project, regarded as a useful tool for the regeneration or the building of sustainable cities on the environmental, economic and social level with reference both to Mediterranean cities and to the examples, for these most significant aspects, of Middle-European cities which have approached, with remarkable results, urban sustainability issues such as the efficiency of a public mobility provided with green infrastructure.Finally some considerations on the planning standards which can be considered optimal because they deal with environmental and eco-efficiency issues in the urban transformations for cities as leaf nervation, able to live in the full respect of the resources and ecosystem balances, of the valorisation of the relation device/nature, of the connections places/identity and of the right relation public/private.

L’argomento del paper proposto si colloca nei topic “Innovazione dell’abitazione sostenibile nella cultura mediterranea” e “Progettazione urbana sostenibile per la città mediterranea” e presenta considerazioni ed esiti di una linea di ricerca affrontata dal Dip. AACM che, partendo dall’interesse verso progetti e processi di governance tesi ad accrescere la qualità urbana, ha poi approfondito i criteri progettuali per la città sostenibile, intesa come città accogliente, salubre, eticamente bella. Il contributo intende soffermarsi su alcuni aspetti a partire dalla considerazione che la sostenibilità richiede un approccio sistemico come dimostrato dai principali accorgimenti adottati per la scelta dei siti insediativi che hanno prodotto un’ottimale aderenza tra organismo urbano e caratteristiche dell’ambiente, in relazione alle strategie insediative delle regioni del Mediterraneo, con l’intento di ricordare quelle “sapienze” progettuali che hanno dato vita a città sorprendenti destinate a durare millenni.Un altro aspetto è relativo alle sperimentazioni più avanzate e creative nel campo del progetto urbano quale strumento utile per la rigenerazione o la costruzione di una città sostenibile sul piano ambientale, economico e sociale sia in riferimento alle città mediterranee che agli esempi, per questi aspetti più significativi, delle città mitteleuropee che hanno affrontato con esiti apprezzabili le tematiche della sostenibilità urbana a partire da un’efficiente mobilità pubblica corredata da infrastrutture verdi.Infine alcune considerazioni sui criteri di progettazione che si possono considerare ottimali poiché affrontano la questione ambientale e dell’eco-efficienza nelle trasformazioni urbane per città nervatura di foglia in grado di vivere nel pieno rispetto delle risorse e degli equilibri eco-sistemici, della valorizzazione dei rapporti artificio/natura, delle relazioni luoghi/legami identitari e del corretto rapporto pubblico/privato.
