AbstractThe apartment block of Martian’ s family that is dated 1961, construction work began on the principles, thatin 1838 it will give to Mr. Natale Jannelli, since the building had a succession of owners, who neglected, andafter the earthquake of 1978 left it completely. The palace is a longitudinal plan with the main entrance in thenorth side and the secondary at south: it consists in a double building, which extends for 42 meters on theway of the offices and for 14 mt on the present Piazza Garibaldi. The building has three levels, theunderground floor used like store house, and covered with vaults of stone and earthenware, the others twofloors with wooden roof vaulted made by “cannuciati”, all the wall is in brick and stone with a size of 12- 50cm. The three floors are connected by a system of stone steps covered with barrel vaults made of thin bricksof 25 cm long at Roman style, arranged in longitudinal rows and with cross vaults made by the same bricksThe pitched roof is composed of trusses with Monaco, with warping related at the Lombard period. In thethree prospects of our building there is no sign of any symmetry: the main facade is subdivided vertically intotwo parts which demonstrate the begin of a renovation work, that is never completed, confirmed by thedifferent types of eaves and balconies. The frames are carved in stone of Syracuse (MELILLI) and weretransported by a ship landed on the beach of Tonnarella, while the main portal is made by tuff. Thesecondary facade, is finished with frame of brick, being at a higher level than the main facade, it has onlytwo floors. The project of restoration and reuse concern in the construction of a shelter for battered women.The objective of the halfway house is to overcome the trauma and the construction of new possibilities of life,the rediscovery of its resources and capabilities. In the houses are greeted with the mother even minorchildren, of the women that had suffered the violence, both the children having witnessed the violence bothwho had suffered it directly.
