The building envelope is the architectural element that delimits the building organism peri- meter and consists of technical enclosing, vertical, horizontal and inclined elements (Brock, L., 2005). Recently, due to the growing interest in environmental issues, this definition has been modified. Today the building envelope is a dynamic interface element in continuous and active interaction with external climatic factors. Specifically, "curtain wall means a part of the building envelope made of a structure usually consisting of horizontal and vertical profiles, connected together and anchored to the supporting structure of the building and containing fixed and/or openable infills, which provides all the required functions of an in- terior or exterior wall or part of it, but does not contribute to the load-bearing capacity or stability of the building structure" (UNI EN 13830:2020). The building envelope is required to provide structural strength, energy efficiency and comfort performance; consequently, it is subjected to various laboratory tests in order to verify the required requirements. Thus, in parallel with the increasingly pervasive studies related to the architectural aspects of the latest generation of the building envelope, its design by models and associated performan- ce testing is a current and rapidly evolving topic within the disciplinary debate. In this scenario, the purpose of this research is to investigate the possibility of introducing and developing in the conceptualization and engineering phases of the envelope, digitally based simulations and performance verifications, using three-dimensional parametric mo- dels of the envelope that can thus anticipate the result of laboratory tests and thus facilita- te and streamline and economize the design path, at least in the initial parts of its process In line with the National Research Program 2021-2027 (PNR) and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the present research aims to use a digital twin approach, in combi- nation with BIM, for envelope modeling and subsequent digitization of laboratory testing.
