“Lettere sulla Sicilia” di Viollet-le-Duc. Storia di un viaggio immaginato

At sunrise, the day of the disembarkation of Garibaldi’s troops in Sicily and after the victory of the Calatafimi battle on the 15th of May in 1860, Eugene Viollet-le-Duc plans the report of an imaginary trip. Garibaldi’s and Mile’s venture with the Sicilian against the army of Francis II of House of Bourbon and king of the Two Sicilies, arouses in Viollet-le-Duc, from the beginning the desire to continue with the rapid journalistic attitude, to soon transform the conquest events of the Isle in a commemoration of the trip accomplished twenty-four years ago, thus, he recounts in first person a Sicilian itinerary retracing the stages, describing the places and recounting the facts as he experienced them in 1836. The success of this meticulous invention game is narrated in eight different letters published in the Moniteur from May 1860 and then collected and published the same year in Paris as Lettres sur la Sicilie a porpos des evenements de juin et de juillet 1890 by the type of Bance fils e F. Chamerot.

All’alba dello sbarco delle truppe garibaldine in Sicilia e dopo la vittoria di Calatafimi del 15 maggio 1860, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc progetta il resoconto di un viaggio immaginato. L’impresa di Garibaldi e i Mille uniti ai siciliani contro l’esercito del re di Napoli Francesco II di Borbone, re delle Due Sicilie, suscita in Viollet-le-Duc, dapprima, il desiderio di seguire con rapido piglio giornalistico il compiersi delle azioni di conquista dell’Isola per tramutarsi ben presto in una rievocazione del viaggio compiuto ventiquattro anni prima. Così egli racconta in prima persona un itinerario siciliano ripercorrendo le tappe, descrivendo i luoghi, raccontando i fatti che aveva vissuto nel 1836. L’esito di questo rigoroso gioco d’invenzione è raccontato in otto lettere uscite sul Moniteur a partire dal mese di maggio del 1860, poi raccolte e pubblicate nello stesso anno a Parigi come Lettres sur la Sicile à propos des événements de juin et de juillet 1860 presso i tipi di B. Bance fils e F. Chamerot.
