In this paper the forces on a cylinder, produced by random wave groups interacting with a uniform current, are investigated. For this purpose Boccotti’s quasi-determinism (QD) theory is extended to the wavecurrent interaction. Therefore, assuming that a very large wave occurs at some fixed time and location, for a fixed value of the current speed, it is obtained that both the free surface displacement and the velocity potential tend to coincide with two deterministic functions. The random wave force on a vertical cylinder in waves and current is then calculated by applying Morison’s equation, where the deterministic wave group gives kinematics. In the application, the current effects are investigated either for following or opposing current
