Abstract

For the first time, the medieval urban planning programs of Pope Pasquale II (1099- 1118) and, subsequently, the road reorganization programs of Rome, conceived and completed between 1450 and 1650, on the initiative of the popes who succeeded each other from Sixtus IV toSistus V, were real interventions forerunners of urban resilience. In particular, we will deal with the formation of the "Trident" in Piazza del Popolo, with the motivations and methods that underlie it.
