The pine forests are particularly affected by wildfires in the Mediterranean environment. At the same time, the wildfires are an important tool for the recovery and propagation of pine forest. The study area falls within the forest state property called “Rafforosso”, in the province of Caltanissetta, where they made reforestation with Eucalyptus sp. and Pinus halepensis Mill. Subsequently, the Forestry Authority of Sicily Region has undertaken activities for the conversion of Eucalyptus Plantations through the felling of these trees and the planting of Pinus halepensis in the ranks. In 2007, a part of this state property has burned by crown fire that practically destroyed it. After the wildfires, established an abundant natural regeneration of Pinus halepensis which reached a height of two meters already after four years of the event. This regeneration has been able to colonize extensively the surrounding areas previously occupied by eucalyptus plantations. In this area have been conducted detailed surveys for the monitoring of natural regeneration. The paper illustrates the methods of analysis used to characterize the situation post fire, but also the acquired data and the results obtained. The information gathered was used to propose the management guidelines that promote the natural dynamics of regeneration and to ensure the recovery of the pine forest.

Abstract
The information gathered was used to propose the management guidelines that promote the natural dynamics of regeneration and to ensure the recovery of the pine forest.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
