Longshore sediment transport rate may be calculated using semi-empirical equations, which are based on laboratory and field data. These formula use a bulk sediment transport method that relates longshore sediment transport to a few waves and beach parameters (see, for example, the CERC-1994 and Kamphuis-1991 expression). In this paper, a new approach is proposed for the computation of the longshore sedimernt transport in a sea state, with a given significant wave height at breaking and a given spectrum. An application is proposed, where the results given by the new solution are compared with those achieved the CERC and Kamphuia formulae.

Abstract

Longshore sediment transport rate may be calculated using semi-empirical equations, which are based on laboratory and field data. These formula use a bulk sediment transport method that relates longshore sediment transport to a few waves and beach parameters (see, for example, the CERC-1994 and Kamphuis-1991 expression). In this paper, a new approach is proposed for the computation of the longshore sedimernt transport in a sea state, with a given significant wave height at breaking and a given spectrum. An application is proposed, where the results given by the new solution are compared with those achieved the CERC and Kamphuia formulae.
