Abstract

As regards the impact on the territory, Local Authorities have a key role to play for the success of the PNRR and are called upon to adhere to the new approach necessary to achieve the medium and long-term objectives on the various axes of intervention. This condition requires greater capacity for planning and managing the transition than previously required to access traditional structural funds. In this context, the work of the PUI of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria can be considered a good practice, which concerned the creation and activation of the Urban Lab BiodiverCity, a permanent laboratory model structured as an enhancement of the laboratories present at the Mediterranean University (Lastre del PAU and Agrifor), which already has adequate professionalism, skills, tools and spaces to test the performance of the theories and criteria developed so far to improve processes more relevant than those applied up to today, covering all the operational phases linked to the sustainability of the city, from the aspects of participatory planning and guidance towards the decision-making aspects for the management and implementation of the interventions. The Lab will support financeable works that will revitalize the socioeconomic fabric of these places through the redevelopment of aspects related to urban and peri-urban greenery, and aims to create an enhancement of the historical and architectural heritage and activate a sort of dynamism in economic activities.
