The role of colour in architectonic composition and restoration. During an architectonic restoration one often notes an imprecise consideration for the colouristic unity of the elements, ending in an incomprehension of the different materials to be pieced into e relief. For exemple, the rebuilding of foundations which follow Vitruvius’s rules, using stone in a counter position with a successive height development, built less expensive stuccoed materials, has as a consequence a deformation of the morphologically correct reading of the structure, visually separating the architectonic elements. Thus the colour and spatial equilibrium desired disappear eliminating the unity of the composition. Furthermore, the hierarchical-spatial balance between the position of the recess of the façade and the architectonic composition is often abolished by the chromatic uniformity of the differentiated colour according to the different planes of observation. This will underline the sensitivity necessary for a new chromatic distribution. The chromatic creation of an architectonic façade should help the spectator to understand the proportions, the modular ratios and the clear-obscure effect of the projecting elements. The relation proposes to evaluate as well as to criticize the results of the restoration intervention recently undertaken in Rome in the light of these considerations.

Abstract
The relation proposes to evaluate as well as to criticize the results of the restoration intervention recently undertaken in Rome in the light of these considerations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
