The influence of new technologies in the context of political processes (and democracy in general) is now a consolidated reality. Just think about the organization and activities of the digital parties, electoral communication on social media, the subscription to referendums and citizen-initiated legislative projects through digital signatures, electronic voting, and its impact on the democratic participation of citizens. In relation to electronic voting, it emerges that in Italy, during the XVIII legislature, several initiatives related to its experimentation and the digitization of the electoral process in general have been recorded, following the path recently outlined by the European Union in this regard. Abstract

Comparative law suggest that supervised electronic voting, under the control of public officials, represents an innovation in electoral procedures certainly more desirable than remote internet voting. Among the various experiences of supervised electronic voting that deserve to be analyzed and which may prove useful for the purposes of an experiment in Italy there are, certainly, those of the United States and Brazil.
