The demo shows the technical feasibility and the implementation of a “mesh-phone”, which is a smartphone that behaves as a mesh router; thus, it actively participates in the process of packet forwarding towards a mesh gateway or acts as a gateway toward the Internet. The technical feasibility is assessed though the implementation of a prototype of the mesh-enabled phone on an open hardware and software platform based on OpenmokoTM. Practical issues are addressed, such as measurements of CPU time and power consumption, to understand which aspects may hinder and which ones may facilitate the spreading of such a device on a wide scale.

Abstract
The demo shows the technical feasibility and the implementation of a “mesh-phone”, which is a smartphone that behaves as a mesh router; thus, it actively participates in the process of packet forwarding towards a mesh gateway or acts as a gateway toward the Internet. The technical feasibility is assessed though the implementation of a prototype of the mesh-enabled phone on an open hardware and software platform based on OpenmokoTM. Practical issues are addressed, such as measurements of CPU time and power consumption, to understand which aspects may hinder and which ones may facilitate the spreading of such a device on a wide scale.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
