Reggio Calabria, like many others cities of Italian Mezzogiorno has been experiencing for more than a decade new projects related to development policies and urban regeneration strategies that are driving the action on cities and land. The latter, in particular, are related to suburb areas, as much as to central areas of a city which has been lived, during its difficult history, intricate and de- structuring settlement dynamics as well as a progressive process of losing sense of belonging to places from settled communities. Multifaceted city, with different suburbs having specific characteristics depending on the land dimension, Reggio, even if between lights and shadows, has started up a new period with urban regeneration processes. The article is directed to propose: - a brief report about the urban policies which, going from the “Decreto Reggio” to the PSU, are managing the transformations of city and its suburbs; - a description of possible scenarios which are opening with the new Regional Planning Act and the beginning of a new PSC.
