Coherently with the main goal of the call "Un Selfie dei Territori" the paper investigates the opportunities and criticalities offered by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with particular reference to the local scale of terri- tories. This study adopts a multifocal, cross-cutting and multi-scalar analytical perspective to understand, on the one hand, the different levels - territorial, national and European - of ecological transition policies and, on the other hand, the degree of information literacy of the citizenry on the topic. The survey, conducted in two different INA-Casa districts, in Bologna and Reggio Calabria, respectively, aims to observe the level of knowledge and awareness of communities regarding sus- tainability, ecological transition, PNRR and, more generally, the tools and opportunities related to these challenges. After framing the broad context of reforms and investments promoted by the EU and Italy to respond to the contemporary crisis - pandemic, environmental, economic and energy - the contribution illustrates the project and research theses developed by the group. The investigation method employed a questionnaire proposed to residents of the Barca (BO) and Sbarre Inferiori (RC) neighbourhoods under investigation. The acquired data, appropriately interpreted, open the discussion to feasible design proposals for energy upgrading and regeneration of public residential neighbourhoods.
