This study examined a site abandoned and degraded that is part of a historical heritage of high cultural and landscape value for the entire metropolitan area of Reggio Calabria and Messina. The permanent fortification of the Strait of Messina, built between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s, includes a defensive system composed of 24 forts (10 on the Calabrian shore and 14 on the Sicilian shore). The former Ciccarello armory of Reggio Calabria is the fort subject of our investigation. The hybrid A'WOT model was applied, which combines the SWOT analysis with the AHP analysis (Analytic Hierarchy Process, Saaty, 1987) with the aim of investigating the strategy for recovery and requalification through the creation of an agro park - urban areas with social gardens able to provide agricultural and environmental information and training services, cohesion and social inclusion of disadvantaged people for the benefit of the entire community.
