New housing typologies: technology rules and contemporary housing languages ABSTRACT – We propose to deeper analyze the different ways of contemporary housing, by means of understanding multiculturalism topic, and to examining the relationship between technology and language as nuclear element of the internal process of designing. From this point of view, the two comparing projects presented – a selection of many experiences grown on the same place – are part of urban regeneration theme and focus on revitalizing of a degraded area close to historical center on the waterfront of Messina. This area has been unsolved for many years because of urbanity conflicts and marginality of commercial and residential activities that are, unlike organized functions within the nearly urban texture. The project strategy lies on a full analysis of the city context, presenting open spaces in use or disused buildings having equally architectonic value. We point out specific requalification of a disused building through the considerations of different scalar aspects linked to operative area: Urban aspects - adaptation to urban transformation plans and mobility re-organization; - dismissal of falling buildings and volumetric rehabilitation to assign to city squares and public gardens; - implementation and revaluation of horizontal surfaces to equip and assign to district connective, as nucleus of recreation activities in order to make better use of cost landscape; Building aspects - reconversion of a building of a big volumetric impact view from a commercial function to a residential one, through upgrading process of constructive technologies and redefinition of the existing elevation structure; - use of sustainable technologies since the preliminary design phase in way of determining the morphological and constructive choices; - interpretation of geometric-formal system of the object to re-qualify in order to re-introduce historical landscaped elements in to preexisting buildings, as recurrent parameters in urban modification; Therefore, we investigate the relationships between place , building and its components that is balance it determines correct operative phases enhancement; or pending influences on designer choices, not least mediation between internal and external space where it resolves the duality between structural and epidermic apparatuses.
Si propone di approfondire i diversi modi dell’abitare contemporaneo, attraverso anche la comprensione del tema della multiculturalità, ed esaminare il rapporto tra tecnologia e linguaggio come elemento centrale del processo interno di progettazione. In questo quadro, i due progetti a confronto che s’intendono presentare - sono un campione di svariate esperienze maturate sul medesimo sito - rientrano nella tematica della rigenerazione urbana, e s’interessano della rivitalizzazione di un’area degradata a ridosso del centro storico e sul fronte a mare della città di Messina, per anni irrisolta tra incongruenze urbanistiche, e marginalità delle attività commerciali e residenziali presenti rispetto alle funzioni organizzate nel tessuto adiacente consolidato. L’impostazione progettuale risiede in un’analisi complessiva del contesto urbano, che presenta spazi aperti ed edifici in uso o parzialmente dismessi di eguale valenza architettonica. Si è posta l’attenzione sulla riqualificazione puntuale di un manufatto ormai in disuso (silos), attraverso la considerazione di diversi aspetti scalari collegati all’area d’intervento. Aspetti urbani: - adeguamento ai piani di trasformazione urbana e alla riorganizzazione della mobilità; - dismissione di edifici fatiscenti e recupero delle volumetrie da destinare a piazze urbane e giardini pubblici; - implementazione e rivalutazione delle superfici orizzontali da attrezzare e destinare a connettivo di quartiere quale attrattore di attività ricreative per una migliore fruizione del paesaggio costiero; Aspetti edilizi: - riconversione di un edificio di grande impatto volumetrico e visivo da commerciale a residenziale, attraverso un processo di upgrading di tecnologie costruttive e ridefinizione della struttura di elevazione esistente; - impiego di tecnologie ecocompatibili già in fase preliminare in maniera da determinare le scelte morfologiche e costruttive; - interpretazione del sistema geometrico-formale dell’oggetto da riqualificare al fine di re-immettere elementi paesaggistici storicizzati nelle preesistenze quali costanti ricorrenti nella modificazione urbana. S’indagano, inoltre, i rapporti che corrono tra il luogo, l’edificio e i suoi componenti; quali gli equilibri che ne determinano la corretta conduzione delle fasi operative; quali le influenze che gravano sulle scelte operate dal progettista, e non ultima, la mediazione possibile tra spazio interno/esterno in cui risolvere la dualità tra apparato strutturale ed epidermico.
