Abstract

Mystification Marinella Arena In the past I have studied the architecture of the post-earthquake reconstruction of Reggio Calabria. I have made systematic comparisons to verify the structure of the blocks, the facades and the corner solutions. The orderly city, designed by De Nava, is followed by one of contemporary disorder. The contrast between an orderly city and an chaotic city, has set new urban landscapes. The latter are related to the concept of anthropological space that, as claimed by Pierre Levy, has knowledge at its centre. The knowledge of a place occurs through different languages: technical representations, literary descriptions, videos and photos. The photos of Reggio Calabria give two different ideas of the city : in the past an orderly city, black and white; and now a contemporary city, full of colours. In my opinion there is another city, a grey city, that is often ignored The photographic images of Reggio Calabria are, often, misleading: they offer a stereotyped view. Given that the photograph is actually a prosthesis of our senses, we must promote images which are more realistic and relevant.
