A numerical limit analysis procedure, recently proposed by the authors, is here presented as a preliminary design tool for load carrying capacity evaluation of steel reinforced concrete elements. The effectiveness of the method is shown through a few simple applications on large-scale reinforced concrete (RC) prototypes. Weak points and advantages of the expounded procedure are pointed out.

Abstract
