This paper deals with the longshore sediment transport (LST) rate. The LST rate is described by the product of two independent quantities, which are determined by both theoretical and empirical arguments. The paper outlines the theory involved in the calculation of the LST rate and provides some novel useful empirical expressions for obtaining a reliable estimate. The empirical expressions are developed by means of high quality field data. The results are complemented by an example involving the determination of the longshore sediment transport (LST) at a certain location.

Abstract

This paper deals with the longshore sediment transport (LST) rate. The LST rate is described by the product of two independent quantities, which are determined by both theoretical and empirical arguments. The paper outlines the theory involved in the calculation of the LST rate and provides some novel useful empirical expressions for obtaining a reliable estimate. The empirical expressions are developed by means of high quality field data. The results are complemented by an example involving the determination of the longshore sediment transport (LST) at a certain location.
