Abstract

The knowledge of the phase of the field scattered from a microstrip patch is the principal factor in the design of reflectarray antennas. In this work an experimental characterization of this parameter is considered. The measurement results confirm the necessity to take into account the effect of the reflection from the finite sized ground plane. At this purpose the Physical Optics theory is used to correct the Standard Moment Method evaluation of the scattered field from a patch element. The computational advantage and the accuracy of this approach are described and discussed.
