The research deals with a comparative study based on the diagrammatic analysis of the towers of Babel of Flemish painting of the sixteenth century by two of its greatest exponents: Pieter the Elder Bruegel (1563) and Lucas Van Valckenborch (1590), for a path to design the thought that operates a visual passage from the outside to the inside of the tower: from the painted image we proceed to "stripping", that is digging deeply, through a series of infinitesimal sections that "cut the void" kept inside of the tower: taking the sense of the model being studied, another "inside" sense (Inside Babel - content) is embodied, thus giving material consistency to that immaterial idea of a Babelic tower that was born as pure architecture. Idea that is therefore drawn from the shape of other models - called "key references" - through a system that highlights the concept of morphological daimon: a generating idea of shape, which gives weight and depth to the architecture of the tower which, otherwise, it remains perceived only in its inexpressive "twodimensionality". In fact, numerous are the paintings and engravings that portray it, unfortunately, only from a merely "external" point of view (Outside Babel - containing). The final objective of the thesis is, therefore, the perfect interpenetration of one and the other (Outside and Inside) for a search for truth, which is revealed to our eyes only through the "unravelling of the mask" given by the spontaneous breaking of matter, hidden inside of the architecture of the tower.
