«Ala bucca de lo Gulfo». La fortezza di Bouka e le sue trasformazioni tra Venezia e Impero Ottomano

From 1463 the Turks started a program of fortifications in Epirus, in the strategic area of the Strait of Arta, previously Venetian, with a castle called Bouka, from the italian mouth, around which Preveza developed. Today Bouka has been lost but its urban sign remains, because nothing was built there anymore. Through the textual and iconographic documentary sources, its typological characteristics and its history during the alternation of Ottoman and Venetian dominations can be reconstructed.

Dal 1463 i turchi avviarono un programma di fortificazioni in Epiro, nell’area strategica dello stretto di Arta, sottratta a Venezia, con un castello detto Bouka, la bocca, attorno al quale si sviluppò la città di Preveza. Oggi Bouka è andato perduto ma ne rimane il segno urbano, perché nulla vi fu più insediato. Attraverso le fonti documentarie testuali e iconografiche possono essere ricostruite sue caratteristiche tipologiche e la sua storia nell’alternarsi di dominazioni ottomana e veneziana.
