The article argues two different approaches to citizenship, both embedded in European and Western tradition: the exclusion paradigm and the inclusion one. Some arguments in favour of the inclusive paradigm of European contemporary and future citizenship will be considered, highlighting some critical and constructive remarks for both the approaches. The article aims at pointing out the need of thinking not from a post-state stance, but rather extra-state one.
