Green areas constitute the essential urban territorial and ecological framework. Green spaces, natural or designed, provide to the built environment high levels of spatial quality, positively influencing the health and well-being of individuals, and respond to an ecological approach in which the well-being of communities and of urban system is an essential prerogative to start effective planning processes for responding to contemporary environmental and social needs. From these premises, the proposed contribution describes the results from a research path articulated on several fronts, towards the promotion of the health and well-being of the communities through the creation of a protocol of “codified” procedures, to be understood as a set of recommendations to follow to start planning and managing public space. The research is based on the assumptions of a broader multi-year laboratory work, which is configured as a field of experimentation guided by a system action aimed at strengthening the transition process towards green and sustainable cities, enhancing, and implementing natural capital within the large territory of the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria which has the Aspromonte National Park within it.
