Abstract

The connection between technology and man is today an increasingly consolidated relationship, characterized by the continuous conflict between homologation and uniqueness. If, on the one hand, technology can be defined as a tool aimed at the automation of human processes, on the other, it offers, through due and necessary human calibrations, particularly engaging and customizable experiences. Technology therefore becomes the tool through which to put the person at the centre, building specific digital storytelling paths on them, capable of promoting and consolidating inclusive design for the knowledge of cultural heritage. If inclusive design, understood in its general sense, refers to an approach aimed at creating products, services, environments and technologies that can be accessible and inclusive for the widest possible public, we would like to focus below on the theme of the administration of digital technologies for the knowledge of cultural heritage with respect to a specific reference target: children. The preparatory definition of the target makes it possible to theorise a coherent calibration process, in which narration is defined as the most suitable tool for understanding and assimilating the proposed cultural paths. The case study of this narrative and cognitive journey are the towers of Calabria Ultra, spread out along the Calabrian coastal landscape and described with a clear and recognizable iconography within the Romano Carratelli Codex. The narrative, designed for a narrow and very specific target, offers a systemic vision of the work closely connected to the reality of the places. In the context of storytelling, the pages of the Codex, characterized by vivid colors and rapid signs, are the prize of an ideal of a treasure hunt, 'explorer prizes' to be collected along the course of the game: a captivating expedient, to be enjoyed through the use of augmented reality. It is a journey made up of clues and places to discover, guided by customizable storytelling, as well as the choice of storyteller. Different storytelling and storytellers therefore manage to break the usual patterns that link the obligatory cultural routes, accompanying users along the routes that link the Calabrian coastal towers to the communities that inhabit the territories and to which these architectures belong.
