The main scope of this paper is to analyse the volumetric and surface characteristics of hot mix asphalt specimens as a function of compaction process.Specimens were produced in the laboratory by two different compaction devices: Gyratory Compactor and Roller Compactor .Volumetric and surface characteristics (air void content, bulk specific gravity) were investigated. The relationship between surface texture and volumetrics was investigated. The analysis of results allowed to investigate on how material movements under the compaction effort determine volumetrics distribution and variations and surface properties.Outcomes of this study are expected to benefit both practitioners and researchers.
