Assigned to Pier Luigi Nervi from the Municipality in 1960, the assignment planned the planimetric distribution of spare time equipments on the seaside, integrated thanks to a new viability plan within the city fabric. The approved draft plan with its application difficulties induced the project engineer to renounce to the realization of the first executive plot, transferring the plan, in 1964-1965 to the Studio La Face e Ziparo, wich completed the construction only in 1984, after the silting works of the railway. Thermal, chemical and mineralogical diagnostic surveys have been compared to the optical survey of degradation, confirming how some project faults have created a tendency to pathological alterations both in the aspect, in the resistance and consistence of component materials.

Abstract
The realization of Reggio Calabria Seaside from a project of Pier Luigi Nervi. State of the worksRestoration of modern architecture is a subject that offers severals reasons to reflect in relation to the durability of its component materials. In this article we want to present an example of these problems with the study of the complex of the Reggio Calabria Municipal Seaside, realized in reinforced concrete in the 1960’s and its location in proximity of the sea makes it subject to chloride corrosion. Test on five plaster, cement and concrete samples have given positive results on degradation conditions of buildings materials. As a matter of fact deterioration attacks restricted distinguishable parts, with a verifiable level and intensity of phenomena. This fondness, reached in a thirty-year period of time, is produced at a superficial layer, with a depth of about 0.6 inch. And as long as the phenomenon is at early stage and as not had a devastating effect (the iron reinforcement has not been corroded) any damage to the structure can be avoided intervening with immediate actions on the corroded parts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
