Dignitas and Aequabilitas. Power and values in Roman res publica · The paper analyzes the relationship between governors and governed as well as the attitude of governing power in the constitutional experience of the Roman res publica. The examination of Cicero’s sources makes it possible to set the problem of the meaning of the word “democracy” on an axiological basis. On this assumption, the work propose new reflections on the controversial issue of “democratic nature” of Roman res publica.
