The innovative policies for the landscape in our territories are aiming at an ecological rationality through actions aimed at protecting identities. The objective of sustainable cities and communities of the UN 2030 Agenda, combined with the opportunities offered by the various European, national and regional planning programs and projects, are creating a wealth of projects towards urban and environmental regeneration and socio-economic regeneration by leveraging also on the importance of landscape education and training actions with a view to reducing the consumption of land carried out by the universities present in the area that manage to combine scientific activity and openness to society. In this context, the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria also considered it useful to activate, with the LaStre Laboratory of the PAU, a collaboration for the construction of a methodological process of safeguard and growth of the territory attentive to the aspects of eco-sustainability through the River Contract instrument. The paper intends to illustrate the paths that will lead to the promotion of an operational development protocol for the development of principles and guidelines, in the form of rules and planning criteria for the construction of shared, participated and negotiated plans that can intervene in these sensitive areas of river, coast and lake and that can be replicated in the different territories with the same problems, precisely with the implementation of this tool.
