The effect of matrix compounds on thebehavior of silane–zeolite composite coatings on a 6061aluminum alloy was evaluated by electrochemical testperformed at long immersion time in 3.5% NaClsolution. It was observed that silane chains influencethe hydrophobic behavior and the electrochemicalperformances of the zeolite-based composite coating. All composite coatings showed a long-term protectionaction in 3.5% NaCl solution. The use of silanecompounds with long alkyl chain or with bi-hydroxylgroups made it possible to obtain electrochemicallystable coating during long immersion time. Best resultshave been obtained with a multicomponent silanemixture (short and long molecular chains).
