SEED OIL COMPOSITION OF PURPLE PASSION FRUIT (PASSIFLORA EDULIS SIMS VAR. EDULIS)WAS INVESTIGATED. PHYSICO-CHEMICALS PROPERTIES WERE: ACIDITY (0.47% AS OLEIC ACID),PEROXIDE VALUE (5.45 MEQ O2/KG), INDUCTION TIME (2.46 H). SPECTROPHOTOMETRICANALYSES WERE CARRIED OUT TO DETERMINE CAROTENES AND CHLOROPHYLLS CONTENT, COLORAND UV CHARACTERISTICS. STEROLS, ALIPHATIC ALCOHOLS AND FATTY ACIDS WERE ANALYZEDBY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY. THREE MAJOR STEROLS, β-SITOSTEROL, STIGMASTEROL AND CAMPESTEROLWERE 42.51%, 30.87% AND 11.14% RESPECTIVELY. ALIPHATIC ALCOHOL COMPOSITIONSHOWED 7 COMPOUNDS RANGING FROM C22 TO C28, WITH A TOTAL CONTENT OF8.72 MG/KG IN THE OIL. THIRTEEN FATTY ACIDS WERE FOUND, SEVEN SATURATED FATTYACIDS (SFA) AND SIX UNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS (UFA). POLYUNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS(PUFA) WERE 72.60% OF THE TOTAL, MAINLY LINOLEIC ACID (72.26%). A LOW CONTENT OFOLEIC ACID (16.05%) WAS FOUND. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THEPASSIFLORA EDULIS SIMSVAR. EDULIS SEED OIL COULD BE USED AS A SOURCE OF ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS (EFA) ANDFOR INDUSTRIAL PURPOSES

LA FRAZIONE STEROLICA, GLIALCOLI ALIFATICI E GLI ACIDI GRASSI SONO STATI ANALIZZATI PER VIA GAS CROMATOGRAFICA.I TRE MAGGIORI STEROLI INDIVIDUATI SONO STATI IL β-SITOSTEROLO, LO STIGMASTEROLO E ILCAMPESTEROLO, RAPPRESENTATI RISPETTIVAMENTE PER IL 42,51%, IL 30,87% EL’11,14%. SONO STATI INDIVIDUATI 7 ALCOLI ALIFATICI COMPRESI TRA C22 E C28, CON UNCONTENUTO TOTALE DI 8,72 MG PER CHILOGRAMMO DI OLIO. SONO STATI RILEVATI 13 ACIDIGRASSI, SETTE SATURI E SEI INSATURI. GLI ACIDI GRASSI POLINSATURI ERANO IL 72,60% DELTOTALE. IL PIÙ RAPPRESENTATO ERA L’ACIDO LINOLEICO (72,26%) MENTRE L’ACIDO OLEICOAVEVA UN CONTENUTO PERCENTUALE BASSO (16,05%). I RISULTATI OTTENUTI DIMOSTRANOCHE L’OLIO ANALIZZATO PUÒ ESSERE UTILIZZATO COME FONTE DI ACIDI GRASSI ESSENZIALIOLTRE CHE PER USI INDUSTRIALI.
