The deep transformation currently underway in the field of fruit-growing, caused by the pressing need for increased market competitiveness, has two fundamental objectives: to improve product quality and abate production costs, which account for a heavy burden in this sector of Italian agriculture. In pursuing these two goals a great contribution is given by farm mechanization, that, with its newly-designed and more and more sophisticated machines, has a positive impact on the very costly harvesting operations. Nevertheless, the innovations in modern fruit growing are not always applicable to environments that sometimes prove to be morphologically and structurally unsuitable. This study makes a review of the harvesting systems presently used over the territory of Calabria through relevant tests conducted in the various environments. In addition, present possibilities in terms of alternative mechanization are defined, which can either be proposed for the immediate future or suggested by the new robot technologies

Abstract
In addition, present possibilities in terms of alternative mechanization are defined, which can either be proposed for the immediate future or suggested by the new robot technologiesI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
