Limiti e ripetizioni

Literature makes little difference between the sea and the desert, and rightly so. These endless expanses have two concepts in common: the idea of a journey and the idea of limits. The position and the direction of the onlooker are metaphors of two different circumstances. Where does the sea end? Where does the desert end? Only the adventure of their crossing can tell. For caravaneers and seafarers every dune, every wave, is always different, its position linked to the sun and the stars. The sky maps out the route.

Laletteratura confonde il deserto e il mare, e lo fa a ben ragione. Due idee accomunano queste sconfinate distese: il viaggio e il limite. La posizione e il verso di chi guarda sono metafore di due diverse condizioni. Dove finisce il mare? Dove finisce il deserto? Solo l'avventura del loro attraversamento può dirlo. Per i carovanieri e i naviganti ogni duna, ogni onda, non è mai la stessa; essa ha una posizione coniugata a quella del sole e delle stelle. Il cielo traccia una rotta.
