Abstract

The circular/adaptive reuse of abandoned spaces and the activation of creative culture processes responsive to Circular Design, represent an emerging theme in the transfer to the realities of small Mediterranean historical centers and their public spaces. The contribution relates these issues, investigated by the authors, through strategies that use unconventional resources and reversible systems. The application of these processes has provided a three-phase methodology with the definition of the first results, in the first part of the paper, through a learning by doing process related to the experimentation of adaptive strategies to a Mediterranean case study and the integration, in the second part of the latter in an ongoing PhD research. This explores some aspects related to the topics mentioned above through devices that mitigate climate impacts in order to identify strategies and models of intervention. The functional regeneration of underutilized spaces becomes an enabling factor of the processes of creative culture in a replicable matrix-system that identifies strategies to support decisions for the climate mitigation of material and immaterial impacts on Cultural Heritage.
